THE PHUKET FIELD GUIDE02

Hello, Phuket.
Where shall we go?

Good food. Beach afternoons. Nights out.

Old Town food stops, Kata beach, Bangla Road nights and options for a one-evening visit—with names, map links and useful transport details.

For food and colourful streets, head to Phuket Old Town. For a beach afternoon, try Kata. For bars and a big night out, make it Patong. Here is where to go in each, whether you have a full day or just tonight.

These are different parts of the island, not stops on one walking route. Start with what interests you, then use the transport section to connect them. Arriving after dark? Jump straight to the one-evening options.

01 / FOOD & OLD TOWN

Thalang Road, crab curry and Phuket ice cream.

GO HERE FOR
Local food, shopfronts and a walk between stops.
USEFUL TO KNOW
Torry’s closes earlier than the dinner spots; the walking-street market is on Sundays.
Find the area on a map

Start on Thalang Road and turn into Soi Rommanee for the colourful shophouses. For lunch or dinner, try One Chun at 48/1 Thep Krasatti Road for Southern Thai cooking. Its crab curry with coconut milk and mu hong—braised pork belly—are dishes highlighted by MICHELIN. The restaurant’s menu is linked below.

For dessert, Torry’s at 16 Soi Rommanee makes flavours based on local ingredients and sweets. Its online list includes Phuket pineapple sorbet and O-Aew sorbet at 95 THB, and Bi-Co-Moi black-rice-and-coconut ice cream at 150 THB. Those are published product prices, not a quote for every dine-in dessert. The shop lists daily hours of 10:00–18:00.

Here on a Sunday? Thalang Road becomes the Lard Yai walking-street market. The Tourism Authority of Thailand lists 16:00–22:00: a food-stall-and-shopping alternative to a restaurant evening. On other days the streets and restaurants are still there; it is the Sunday market that will not be.

02 / BEACHES & VIEWS

Kata for the beach. Karon Viewpoint for the panorama.

GO HERE FOR
A beach afternoon, a coastal photo stop or both.
USEFUL TO KNOW
Karon Viewpoint is a road journey above the coast, not the beachfront.

Put Kata Beach—also called Kata Yai—into your map for the main bay. Kata Noi is a different bay farther south, not the same drop-off. For a coast-and-view combination, spend time at Kata and then arrange a ride to Karon Viewpoint.

The viewpoint looks across Kata Noi, Kata Yai and Karon: the place for the three-bay photograph. The provincial guide places it roughly 5 km by road from Kata Beach. Include the return or onward journey when arranging your ride.

Want a beach followed by nightlife without changing towns? Choose Patong Beach, then walk inland to Bangla Road. For swimming at any beach, red flags mean stay out of the water; they do not stop you enjoying the shore or the view.

03 / PATONG AFTER DARK

Bangla Road for a night out. Illuzion for the dancefloor.

GO HERE FOR
A busy bar street, club music and a late night.
USEFUL TO KNOW
Patong is on the west coast; Phuket Old Town is a separate destination.
Find the area on a map

Bangla Road is the straightforward starting point for Patong nightlife. Begin at its beach end if you are coming from Patong Beach, then walk along the street to compare bars. This is the loud, busy option—not the Old Town food-and-architecture evening.

For a large club, Illuzion is at 31 Bangla Road. Its programme includes electronic music and hip-hop events; the listing for your date tells you what is on. The official site sells tickets for some events, so entry is not automatically free on every night.

Staying in Kata, Kamala or Phuket Town? Price a car or taxi back as part of the night. The buses below can get you to Patong, but check the final departure if you want to return by bus rather than car.

04 / ONLY HERE TONIGHT?

Three ways to use the evening you actually have.

GO HERE FOR
A short visit or an arrival after dark.
USEFUL TO KNOW
These are alternatives, not three consecutive stops.

For a food-led evening in town: walk Thalang Road and Soi Rommanee, then eat at One Chun. On Sunday, the walking-street market is another dinner option. Arriving after the shops have shut? Go straight to dinner.

For food later at night: Go Benz at 163 Krabi Road serves dry rice with crispy pork and offal, plus pork and rolled-noodle dishes. MICHELIN lists 17:00–01:30 Tuesday–Sunday, with Monday closed, and cash-only payment. This is in Phuket Town, not Patong.

For a night out: go to Patong. If there is daylight left, start at the beach; if not, start on Bangla Road. You can combine an Old Town dinner with Patong afterwards, but that needs a cross-island vehicle journey. Compare the live travel time and fare before choosing your dinner time.

05 / AN INDOOR ALTERNATIVE

Aquaria at Central Phuket—or a food afternoon.

GO HERE FOR
An indoor attraction near Phuket Town.
USEFUL TO KNOW
Paid admission; online tickets need three hours’ advance purchase.

Aquaria is on the B1 floor of Central Phuket Floresta, with aquarium displays and an underwater tunnel. It publishes daily hours of 10:30–19:00, last admission 18:00, and suggests around 1 hour 45 minutes for a visit.

Its international-tourist online ticket page requires purchase at least three hours ahead. For an immediate visit, ask about walk-in admission instead. If an aquarium is not your thing, One Chun followed by Torry’s before 18:00 gives you a food-and-dessert outing in Old Town.

06 / CONNECT THE PLACES

The buses to use—and when to compare a car.

GO HERE FOR
Airport arrivals, a beach transfer or a trip into town.
USEFUL TO KNOW
Phuket Town, Patong and Kata are not walkable neighbourhoods of one centre.

For west-coast resorts, Phuket Smart Bus publishes an Airport–Rawai route through Patong, Karon and Kata at 100 THB. Its separate Bus Terminal 2–Phuket Town–Patong route is listed at 50 THB. Choose the correct service on the timetable page linked below.

The operator also lists the free Dragon Line city shuttle connecting Central, Old Town and OTOP Market. That is useful when pairing town with Central Phuket; it is not a free bus to all the beaches. The timetable page includes live bus tracking.

For Kata–Karon Viewpoint, an Old Town dinner followed by Patong, or a late return, compare a taxi or car-app quote for the exact pins. For a multi-stop ride, agree whether the price includes waiting and the return. Taxi fares and transfer times depend on the journey and traffic.

THE LITTLE THINGS YOU MIGHT BE WONDERING

Before you decide.

I only have one night. Where would you start?

Old Town for Southern Thai food and colourful streets; Bangla Road in Patong for bars and clubbing. Go Benz is a later food option in town, Tuesday–Sunday. The one-evening section gives specific combinations without assuming you have tomorrow free.

Can I do Old Town and a beach on the same day?

Yes. They need a vehicle journey between them. For Old Town and Patong, check the 50 THB Smart Bus route or a car quote; for Kata, compare the exact transfer. Pick the order around any meal reservation, market opening or event you want to catch.

Does Phuket Old Town have a night market every day?

Not the Thalang Road walking-street market: TAT lists it on Sundays, 16:00–22:00. Restaurants are a separate option on other evenings.

Does saving this article add every stop to my Diary?

No. Saving keeps the guide as an idea. You choose the places and days yourself; nothing in this article adds a schedule or makes a booking.
