THE KOH PHANGAN FIELD GUIDE
Your first day on Koh Phangan:
which side of the island is yours?
Named places. Useful choices. Your kind of day.
Where to eat, what to see and where to go tonight in Koh Phangan.
See the places & practical links
Coffee in Thong Sala, a west-coast beach, dinner in Hinkong or a dated party in Haad Rin. Specific stops for the day you actually have.
Phangan is not a single party strip. Your useful decision is whether today's centre of gravity is Thong Sala, the west coast or Haad Rin. These choices let you build a day around breakfast, a beach or a night out without pretending everyone wants the same itinerary.

For food near town: Bubba's Thong Sala
- THE IDEA
- A named café stop in Thong Sala.
- USEFUL TO KNOW
- Select the correct branch; Bubba's has several island locations.

Bubba's has a Thong Sala café as well as branches in Baan Tai and Haad Yao. Choose the Thong Sala pin if you are using the town as your starting point, rather than automatically taking a ride across the island for the same café brand.
This is the coffee-and-brunch choice, not a claim that it is the island's cheapest Thai food. Check the menu and branch opening information on the operator's site before heading over, especially when your arrival is late in the day.
Beach & café
For a west-coast beach: Haad Yao
- THE IDEA
- A beach-based outing with a named coffee stop.
- USEFUL TO KNOW
- Do not confuse Haad Yao with Haad Rin on the party coast.
Use Haad Yao as a specific west-coast beach destination, not an instruction to tour every bay. Bubba's Roastery is the named café option here; the operator places it opposite the local 7-Eleven, which is a useful landmark for a driver.
Check the return ride at the same time as the outward journey if you are staying elsewhere. Water conditions are a same-day decision: this suggestion identifies a place to go, not a guarantee of suitable swimming or snorkelling.
Evening
For dinner and drinks: L'Alcove in Hinkong
- THE IDEA
- A French-led bistro with Thai options and a music programme.
- USEFUL TO KNOW
- The bistro currently closes on Mondays; check the performance date.
L'Alcove sits at Hinkong beach. The menu described by the venue ranges from cheese and French dishes to papaya salad, seafood and other Thai choices.
Check the bistro's opening days before making the trip. It also publishes music and performance evenings; select the date for that experience rather than assuming every night has the same entertainment. Its evening opening is another reason not to promise a sunset show regardless of the season.
Nightlife
For a big party: Haad Rin, on the right date
- THE IDEA
- The Full Moon Party when it actually falls during your stay.
- USEFUL TO KNOW
- A monthly event is not an every-night attraction.
If the Full Moon Party is what you want, go straight to the published calendar and check your date. The event is associated with Haad Rin, not the whole island, so choose your accommodation and return arrangements with that location in mind.
The organisers warn that dates can change around official holidays. Use the current calendar, not a moon-phase app or an old travel graphic. If your dates do not match, Hinkong's bistro programme is a separate named evening option; it is not presented as the same kind of night.
THE LITTLE THINGS YOU MIGHT BE WONDERING
Before you decide.
Is the Full Moon Party on every night?
No. Check the official dated calendar; the organisers also warn that holidays can change a scheduled date.
Where can I go if I do not want that party?
Try a beach outing at Haad Yao or dinner at L'Alcove in Hinkong. Check the bistro's Monday closure and the programme for your date.
Will saving this create plans in My Diary?
No. Saving keeps the guide as an idea. Choose what to add to a day yourself; nothing here makes a booking or changes your trip automatically.
