THE KOH LANTA FIELD GUIDE
Your first day on Koh Lanta:
a waterfront, a kitchen or a bay.
Named places. Useful choices. Your kind of day.
Where to eat, what to see and where to go tonight in Koh Lanta.

Old Town's timber waterfront, a Thai cooking class, Saladan's food stops and a dinner option at Kantiang. Choose the part of Lanta you want to see.
Lanta gives you more than a choice between your hotel and an island-hopping trip. Old Town, Saladan and Kantiang are distinct places, while a cooking class makes a good alternative to another beach afternoon. Use the choices below by area and interest. The guide does not assume you are here for a week or that your first evening needs to be quiet.

For waterfront wandering: Lanta Old Town
- THE IDEA
- Timber buildings and a meal overlooking the water.
- USEFUL TO KNOW
- This is a waterfront settlement, not a swimming-beach substitute.

Lanta Old Town is the stop for wooden houses and restaurants extending over the water on stilts. Walk the main waterfront street, look through the small businesses and choose a table by the water if lunch is your priority.
Read the menu before choosing the view. Old Town and the west-coast resort areas are different destinations, so check the return transfer rather than assuming you can stroll back along the beach.
Thai cooking
For an activity you can eat: Time for Lime
- THE IDEA
- A hands-on class instead of another organised sightseeing circuit.
- USEFUL TO KNOW
- Advance booking and dietary discussion matter; the kitchen is open-air.
Time for Lime runs Thai cooking classes and describes its food as vegetarian, vegan and pescatarian rather than meat-based. If learning a curry or a set of Thai dishes appeals more than sightseeing, check the actual class menu and book the session you want.
The business says its profits support Lanta Animal Welfare. That is the operator's stated model, not a reason to skip the practical details: confirm the location, dietary requirements and what the class price includes. For wet weather, ask about the open-air kitchen rather than assuming it is a sealed indoor venue.
Food & practicalities
For a straightforward town stop: Saladan
- THE IDEA
- Cafés, restaurants and travel services in one named place.
- USEFUL TO KNOW
- Saladan is a town choice, not an isolated beach experience.
Ban Saladan is Lanta's main town, with cafés, restaurants, shops and travel offices. It is a useful place to put a meal and any onward-travel questions into the same outing rather than making two separate trips.
Choose food from an actual menu and keep onward tickets separate from restaurant recommendations. If you are only on Lanta briefly, this gives you a named place to browse and eat without committing the whole afternoon to a boat excursion.
Kantiang Bay
For a beachside dinner: Rak Talay at Pimalai
- THE IDEA
- A restaurant-led evening at the south-western bay.
- USEFUL TO KNOW
- A resort restaurant, so check non-resident access and the current menu.
Rak Talay is Pimalai's beachfront dining option at Kantiang, serving Thai and international seafood dishes; the current restaurant page highlights grilled fish and Thai curries. Choose it when a beachside meal is the point of the evening, rather than confusing it with the resort's separate Seven Seas dining venue.
Contact the resort for a restaurant reservation and confirm access if you are not staying there. Compare the menu and your return transport before committing: this is a specific view-led dinner option, not a claim to be a cheap local food stop.
THE LITTLE THINGS YOU MIGHT BE WONDERING
Before you decide.
What can I do on Lanta besides book an island tour?
Walk Old Town's waterfront, take a booked Thai cooking class, or make Saladan's cafés and restaurants your town outing.
Is Old Town where I go for a beach afternoon?
Not for that purpose. Its appeal here is the wooden waterfront settlement and over-water restaurants; a beachside restaurant such as Rak Talay is a different kind of outing.
Will saving this create plans in My Diary?
No. Saving keeps the guide as an idea. Choose what to add to a day yourself; nothing here makes a booking or changes your trip automatically.
