START WITH THE GEOGRAPHY

First, get your bearings in Koh Lanta.

THE TRADE-OFF
A broad destination label does not describe every property’s setting.

Lanta’s west coast gives a stay its beach rhythm, but that rhythm changes as you move south. Klong Dao and Long Beach offer northern convenience and established accommodation choices; Klong Nin makes a different middle-coast base. Kantiang Bay and the southern end ask you to value the quieter setting over constant movement. Across the island, Lanta Old Town is an east-coast choice with its own streets and waterfront, not another entrance to the same west-coast beach holiday.

Think of the island as somewhere to settle into one stretch, rather than a list of beaches to sample every morning. If most of your pleasure is the walk to breakfast, a familiar patch of sand and choosing dinner nearby, the right beach can carry several days without elaborate plans. Old Town can be an outing or the focus of a separate kind of stay. A southern room is most convincing when you want to be in the south; its appeal diminishes if every ordinary meal sends you back north.

WHAT IS ACTUALLY NEARBY

The places behind the area names.

CHOOSE IT FOR
Specific food, sightseeing or transport anchors.
THE TRADE-OFF
A district name does not establish the walk from a particular hotel.

Saladan: Ban Saladan For town restaurants, shops and travel services. Choose elsewhere if staying directly beside a particular beach is the main aim.

Lanta Old Town: Old Town's main waterfront street For timber waterfront buildings and over-water restaurants. A different setting from the island's west-coast beach stays.

Kantiang: Pimalai and Rak Talay For a stay organised around the bay and a restaurant-led evening. Check journey costs when planning outings to Saladan or Old Town.

01 / CHOOSE YOUR SETTING

Klong Dao and Long Beach

CHOOSE IT FOR
Consider Klong Dao and Long Beach for the setting described below.
THE TRADE-OFF
Check the exact property and everyday journeys, not just the area label.
Find the area on a map

The easiest first-time stretch for access, restaurants and a broad accommodation range. Long Beach feels more spread out; Klong Dao is especially practical for families.

Klong Dao and Long Beach are different stretches of the northern west coast. Compare the actual beach access and nearby meals, especially if travelling with children or without your own transport.

02 / CHOOSE YOUR SETTING

Klong Nin

CHOOSE IT FOR
Consider Klong Nin for the setting described below.
THE TRADE-OFF
Check the exact property and everyday journeys, not just the area label.
Find the area on a map

A useful middle-island compromise with sunset beach life and enough places to eat. Journeys north and south remain substantial.

Klong Nin suits a more southern beach base. Check the room’s relationship to the road and shore; a pin near a beach name can hide a less comfortable walk.

03 / CHOOSE YOUR SETTING

Kantiang Bay and the south

CHOOSE IT FOR
Consider Kantiang Bay and the south for the setting described below.
THE TRADE-OFF
Check the exact property and everyday journeys, not just the area label.
Find the area on a map

A scenic, quieter base close to the national-park end of the island. Fewer casual options make accommodation choice more important.

Kantiang Bay and the south are deliberate quieter choices. Price the arrival transfer and check nearby dining before assuming the lower activity level means lower daily costs.

04 / CHOOSE YOUR SETTING

Lanta Old Town

CHOOSE IT FOR
Consider Lanta Old Town for the setting described below.
THE TRADE-OFF
Check the exact property and everyday journeys, not just the area label.
Find the area on a map

An east-coast heritage and local-life base that is not designed as a west-coast swimming holiday. It works as an outing or a deliberate slower stay.

Lanta Old Town is an east-coast settlement, not a west-coast swimming-beach substitute. Choose it for its setting and town atmosphere, with beach excursions treated as separate journeys.

Are these hotel recommendations?

These are neighbourhood comparisons. Use the map links to check a particular property against the places you intend to visit; its facilities, noise and access need checking with that property.
