START WITH THE GEOGRAPHY

First, get your bearings in Trang Islands.

CHOOSE IT FOR
Understand how the bases relate before comparing rooms.
THE TRADE-OFF
A broad destination label does not describe every property’s setting.

The Trang Islands label describes a travel grouping, not one island with several interchangeable resort districts. Koh Mook, Koh Kradan and Koh Ngai are separate boat-access bases, and the label should not be mistaken for a single municipal or provincial neighbourhood. Mook gives village life and local food a bigger role. Kradan is a beach-led choice, while Ngai leans towards a quieter resort stay. Trang on the mainland offers a separate food-and-transport chapter before or after the sea crossing.

Choose which daily experience you want before comparing rooms. If wandering beyond the property and finding village meals matters, that points towards a different decision from wanting most of the day on a chosen beach. Moving islands is a real change of base with bags and boat arrangements, not a casual transfer between nearby streets. Confirm the mainland pickup, named pier and final island landing with the accommodation. A bundled transfer can be useful, but only when its actual start and finish fit your wider route.

WHAT IS ACTUALLY NEARBY

The places behind the area names.

Specific food, sightseeing or transport anchors.
THE TRADE-OFF
A district name does not establish the walk from a particular hotel.

Koh Mook: Farang Beach; Emerald Cave is an optional guided outing. For beaches alongside a resident village. Cave access is weather- and access-dependent.

Koh Kradan: Beachfront resorts including Seven Seas. For a beach-and-snorkelling stay. Dining and transfers need checking with the property.

Trang mainland: Pak Meng and other booked piers connect to island trips. For a stop before or after the island boat. A town room is not an island stay; add the road-and-boat transfer.

Koh Mook

Consider Koh Mook for the setting described below.
THE TRADE-OFF
Check the exact property and everyday journeys, not just the area label.
Find the area on a map

The most rounded base for village life, local food and access to the Emerald Cave when conditions permit.

Koh Mook offers a village setting as well as beach stays. Check which side the property occupies and how you reach meals; an Emerald Cave trip is a separate conditional activity.

Koh Kradan

Consider Koh Kradan for the setting described below.

Check the exact property and everyday journeys, not just the area label.
Find the area on a map

A beach-and-snorkelling stay with limited development, best when the accommodation and sea are the main purpose.

Koh Kradan is a distinct island stay. Confirm current accommodation, meals and boat arrangements directly rather than assuming mainland-style services are available at every hour.

Koh Ngai

Consider Koh Ngai for the setting described below.
THE TRADE-OFF
Check the exact property and everyday journeys, not just the area label.
Find the area on a map

A quiet resort island reached by boat, with few independent services beyond the chosen beach.

Ko Ngai is often reached as part of this travel region but is administratively in Krabi. Check the actual pier and operator; the regional label should not blur the island you are booking.

04 / CHOOSE YOUR SETTING

Trang mainland

Find the area on a map

A useful food and transport chapter before or after the islands, not a substitute for staying on them.

Trang mainland can be a useful staging or food-focused stop. It is not an island beach base, and a boat day from it needs its own journey and return plan.

THE LITTLE THINGS YOU MIGHT BE WONDERING

Before you decide.

Which base in Trang Islands fits my trip?

Are these hotel recommendations?

These are neighbourhood comparisons. Use the map links to check a particular property against the places you intend to visit; its facilities, noise and access need checking with that property.

Will saving this create plans in My Diary?

No. Saving keeps the guide as an idea. Choose what to add to a day yourself; nothing here makes a booking or changes your trip automatically.

The detail behind the guide.

Researched by the Thailand Diary team. This is not a first-hand visit, a hotel inspection or a booking offer. The linked sources were checked on 15 October 2026. Sources support the named places and practical details; our choices and comparisons are editorial judgements. Unverified opening times and prices are not supplied.

Sources & fact-checking
  • TAT: Kradan practical guide 2025 guide checked 15 October 2026 for island food and boat-dependent accommodation.
  • TAT — Ko Kradan Background reference, checked 15 October 2026. Kradan, Muk and Ngai are not interchangeable bases or one walkable area; Ngai should not casually be called part of Trang province. Checked through an indexed official-source extract.
  • TAT: Trang Sea islands 2025 tourism article checked 15 October 2026 for Mook beaches, cave and departure piers. Its broad seasonal-closure wording was not reused as a current park notice.
  • TAT Japan — Ko Ngai Background reference, checked 15 October 2026. Undated access times, boat prices and durations are not current quotes. Geographic inclusion in a Trang travel region does not change the island's administrative province.
  • Seven Seas Resort Official restaurant and bar page checked 15 October 2026. Internally conflicting closing times were deliberately omitted.
