Wat Pho Chai gives the city visit a named cultural anchor. Keep the temple and riverfront as a thoughtful introduction, with meals nearby. The first afternoon does not need a long excursion west or an unplanned international crossing to become worthwhile.
Let the Mekong set the pace
Use the promenade in early morning or late afternoon and leave room for an unhurried riverfront meal.
Water levels, weather and riverside activity change through the year; the atmosphere matters more than a fixed attraction list.

Naem nueang, the Vietnamese-style wrap meal, is one local food direction to investigate. Ask how portions are intended to be shared and what ingredients and sauces are included. Make the meal part of your riverfront evening rather than travelling across the province to reproduce a recommendation word for word.
A town-focused chapter can keep paid transport limited; an out-of-town viewpoint day changes the calculation. Compare the complete return quote and waiting time, not just the outward fare.
