THE KRABI FIELD GUIDE
Your first day in Krabi:
boats, beaches and a proper dinner.
Named places. Useful choices. Your kind of day.
Where to eat, what to see and where to go tonight in Krabi.

Railay for the cliffs, Ao Nang for an easy coastal base, and two named places to eat. Pick the combination that fits your arrival.
Krabi is a province, not one resort. This guide is for the Ao Nang–Railay coast: the useful first decision is whether you want a boat trip or a day entirely on the mainland. A beach, a meal and an evening out can all happen on day one. These are choices, not instructions to spend your first night in your hotel.

For the limestone scenery: Railay West and Phra Nang
- THE IDEA
- A beach outing with Krabi's recognisable cliffs.
- USEFUL TO KNOW
- Railay is reached by boat; a road taxi cannot take you all the way.
Take a longtail from Ao Nang for Railay West, then use the peninsula's paths to reach Phra Nang beach and its cave shrine. Railay East is the mangrove-side landing area, not an interchangeable version of the west-facing sandy beach.
At the ticket point, ask which landing is operating, whether your fare includes the return, and how the last return works that day. If the boat service or sea conditions do not suit your arrival, the mainland options below still give you a complete coastal day.
Mainland coast
For an afternoon without a boat: Ao Nang to Nopparat Thara
- THE IDEA
- A beach walk and a choice of places to stop.
- USEFUL TO KNOW
- The beachfront and accommodation streets spread out; check your actual hotel pin.

Use Ao Nang's seafront as your starting point, or head towards Nopparat Thara for a different stretch of coast. This is the land-based choice when you want to walk, stop for a drink and decide on dinner without a boat connection.
Pin your return destination before you set off: a hotel described as 'Ao Nang' need not be on the beachfront. You can make this your entire outing, or use it before a booked dinner at Lae Lay Grill.
Dinner
For seafood with a view: Lae Lay Grill
- THE IDEA
- A sit-down seafood meal above the Ao Nang coast.
- USEFUL TO KNOW
- A hillside restaurant rather than a walk-up street-food stop.
Lae Lay Grill is the hillside seafood restaurant at 89 Moo 3 in Ao Nang. The point of coming here is dinner looking over the coast, rather than choosing whichever menu happens to be outside your hotel.
Use the restaurant's own contact details to request a table and ask about the day's seafood. For fish or shellfish sold by weight, establish the total price before ordering. If the view is the reason for the booking, ask for an appropriate table rather than assuming every seat has the same outlook.
Food stop
For breakfast or a rainy meal: Café 8.98
- THE IDEA
- Coffee, breakfast and a straightforward indoor-plan alternative.
- USEFUL TO KNOW
- An international café menu, not a claim to the cheapest Thai meal.
Café 8.98's Ao Nang branch gives you specific breakfast choices: eggs Benedict, baked eggs, smoothie bowls and coffee. Its all-day offering also includes salads, burgers and tacos, so it works when your flight has put lunch at an odd hour.
Choose the Ao Nang branch on the map; the business also operates on Phi Phi. It is a useful food stop if rain changes your beach plans.
THE LITTLE THINGS YOU MIGHT BE WONDERING
Before you decide.
Can I visit Railay by taxi?
Not all the way. Railay is cut off from road access by cliffs; this route uses a boat from Ao Nang.
What if I arrive late or the boat service does not suit?
Use Ao Nang's mainland coast and a named dinner stop. You do not have to book an island excursion to have something to do.
Will saving this create plans in My Diary?
No. Saving keeps the guide as an idea. Choose what to add to a day yourself; nothing here makes a booking or changes your trip automatically.
