Khon Kaen's Bueng Kaen Nakhon and Nong Khai's Tha Sadet frontage let a day revolve around a public-space anchor and a chosen meal. Add paid transport or admissions for the specific further stop you want, rather than automatically booking a province-wide excursion.
For food, compare the menu at Leng Yentafo, Kao.Piak.Sen or Daeng Naem Nueang with the kind of meal your group needs. For regional journeys, ask whether a quoted car price includes the return, waiting and all passengers; no universal 'Isaan day rate' is reliable.
